Seagate Q2 2012 – 47 Million Drives Shipped
In their Q2 2012 quarterly earnings call, Seagate indicated total drive shipments in the quarter that ended in December were roughly 119 million units, which included a pre-flood inventory of 11 million drives. Of those drives, Seagate shipped 47 million, compared to 48.9 million in the same quarter a year ago. Looking forward, Seagate still sees a large industry shortage of up to 100 exabytes, or 150 million units, by the end of this year. Seagate stated that while their factories are mostly online, key suppliers in areas such as drive actuators and motors are still severley impacted, especially with tooling.
